Command of the current research and science in the areas of decision-making, persuasive communications, and communications strategy, as well as the jury bias model, set Winning Works apart. Lazarus’ clients have achieved verdicts totaling more than three billion dollars using his strategic insights, case theming and framing, and litigation coaching. Winning Works provides jury selection, focus groups, community attitude surveys, case theme development, opening and closing arguments, and supplemental jury questionnaires.
Lazarus Strategic Services’ clients include political campaigns, bar associations, other professional associations and political candidates in the US and abroad. Lazarus has done work for the Associ-ation of Trial Lawyers of America (now AAJ); many state Trial Lawyer Associations; the State Bar Associations of Arizona, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Hawaii; the state courts in Arizona, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Idaho; specialty bar associations nationally as well as in more than half of the states in the US and several provinces in Canada; and individual law firms. Lazarus has also worked with the ABA, the National Center for State Courts, and the National Conference of Bar Presidents. Lazarus is a regular lecturer on jury bias, jury selection, jury persuasion, and strategic communications.
From 2000 through 2004 Lazarus was the Senior Vice President of State Affairs at what was then known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA, currently AAJ). In that capacity he assisted state trial lawyer organizations with legislative research, political, legislative, and organizational advice. Lazarus continues to provide strategic, communications, message, and political consulting to trial lawyer associations in the US and Canada.
In 1994, Lazarus served as Assistant to the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee in charge of Strategic Communications, directing the Research and Communications departments of the DNC. Ed developed message strategy for the Democratic National Committee, and coordinated message and communications strategy among the DNC, the White House, and the House and Sen-ate Democratic leadership.
Lazarus was a founding partner in the political polling and campaign strategy firm Mellman & Laz-arus. Among his clients were then US Senator Al Gore; Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (SD); Representative Dick Gephardt (MO); Senators Harry Reid (NV), Ron Wyden (OR), Barba-ra Boxer (CA), Carl Levin (MI), Howard Metzenbaum (OH), John Glenn (OH), and Dan Akaka (HI); as well as many other members of the US House and local elected officials.
Lazarus earned a BA in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego and a grad-uate degree from Yale, where he also taught in the Department of Political Science. Lazarus was a fellow at the Roosevelt Center for American Policy Studies, and is co-author of Third Parties in American Politics (Princeton University Press, 1984, 1996). He was also a member of the adjunct faculty of the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University.
